I was filming for #BBCEarth #EarthOnLocation in the Great North Woods with Maine IF&W... During the winter we had caught Canada lynx to attach GPS collars as part of a 10 year long study. Now it was the summer, the air was thick with humidity and a billion biting bugs attacked so aggressively that we had to use gaffer tape to seal between the buttons on our shirts. Above us a small plane honed in on one of the GPS collars - unusually the signal had been coming from the same location for several days. Either the lynx had died, the collar had fallen off or she had given birth. Over 7 hours we fought our way through thick vegetation to find a small rocky outcrop. It was a huge relief to find the female lynx alive. When she eventually left to find food we discovered the youngest wild kitten the scientists had ever seen - barely two weeks old. They quickly weighed it and took samples, and I had a chance to take this one photograph, before we retreated and watched as the mother returned. #Lynx #Conservation #Maine #US #Radiotracking #Science #Baby #Kitten
