I was filming on the summit of Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in Borneo. To many local people it’s known as the revered abode of the dead, believed to be where their ancestors spirits reside. Cameraman Richard Kirby and I had spent almost two weeks on the mountain, climbing an hour each morning from camp in the hope of a clear sunrise. Each day the summit was shrouded in mist with only fleeting glimpses of the spectacular landscape. This particular morning was different.
