Filming for #BBCEarth #EarthOnLocation A young chital deer watches as our boat slowly passes in the Indian Sundarbans. When the tide is out this unique forest is fully exposed and deer can forage on the fresh shoots and leaves of the mangrove tree. The vicious looking spikes that penetrate out of the ground belong to these remarkable trees, but they are not for defence. They are snorkels - allowing the mangrove trees to breathe whilst remaining firmly rooted in the thick airless mud. #Sundarbans #India #Chital #Mangrove #roots #India #Deer
