I was filming with @BamfieldMSC Vancouver Island #Canada for #BBCEarth #EarthOnLocation. After a day filming on the wind-battered islands it was calming to be back at the marine station in time to watch the sun set behind the distant mountains. I was filming in Java... I visited a good friend at an animal rescue centre in Jakarta, and he showed me the latest slow loris that his team had just rescued from the streets. Just a few years ago these tiny primates became internet famous when more than 12 million people watched a YouTube video of one being tickled in a Russian flat. Sadly this sudden popularity fuelled a boom in the illegal international pet trade which has pushed the slow loris closer to extinction. This loris was one of the lucky ones and was soon released into a wild forest reserve far from the city. #EarthOnLocation #BBCEarth #Conservation #Jakarta #Indonesia #Java #Primate #PetTrade #Illegal #Loris
I was filming in New Hampshire, as the Spring arrived... This is when the sap inside the maple trees begins to flow. Traditionally a tap was hammered in and the liquid was collected in buckets, but today thousands of maples are connected by long blue pipes. They transport the sap downhill and into huge vats. Here its boiled over several days to concentrate the sugar, and produce maple syrup. This attracts the attention of a sweet toothed bandit. Porcupines have learned that all it takes is a little nip of the pipe to unleash a steady flow that they can lap up. #BBCEarth #EarthOnLocation #NewHampshire, USA #MapleSyrup #Maple #Sugar #Farming #Porcupine #Wildlife
