Mount Kinabalu, in Borneo is home to the giant red leech. A remarkable predator, that can grow to be 70cms long. On these densely forested slopes they are elusive and had never been filmed before. After several weeks of searching, a torrential rainstorm drew out the leaches prey - giant blue iridescent worms. The red leeches were not far behind. We watched in amazement as a leach, almost as long as my arm, latched onto its prey, its quivering lips felt up and down the worms body until it found an end to suck. Like a string of spaghetti, the worm was slowly devoured. #BBC #EarthOnLocation #Borneo #Leach #Horror #Wildlife #Worm #KInabalu #Mountain #Freaky #Predator #BBCEarth
I was filming in Malaysia. In the rainforest the distinctive honking call of a Malayan horned toad is the only thing that betrays its disguise. Once heard, you must slowly move towards the sound, but if it spots you the game is on. The frog goes silent, sits still and waits. Get too close and it will suddenly jump and dive into the leaf litter never to be seen again. To find a frog disguised as a leaf can take some time. #BBC #EarthOnLocation #Malaysia #Frog #Toad #Amphibian #Camouflage #Wildlife #Evolution #Rainforest
I had been working with a team rescuing orangutan from patches of forest under threat in Sumatra - a difficult task that is stressful for the orangutans, and the people working to save them. Once safely captured they are quickly transported to Gunung Leuser National Park where they can live in prime and protected rainforest. After a successful release we were hiking through the park and we passed by this orangutan in her nest, a recently rescued individual. She gave us a knowing glance and stretched before settling down for the night - safe in her forest home. #BBC #EarthOnLocation #Orangutan #Rescue #Conservation #Palmoil #Sumatra #Primate #BBCEarth #Wildlife
