Resembling a cross between a gremlin and a tiny koala, the spectral tarsier emerges before dusk and spends the night jumping from tree to tree on the hunt for food. It has eyes larger than its brain, a head that can rotate 180 degrees, ears that can detect the twitch of an insect from as far as 10 metres away. The local guides in Tangkoko nature reserve, Sulawesi, informed me that this tree was home to a family of Tarsiers. We arrived before Dawn and waited - sure enough, not long after it started to get light the tarsiers returned from a night of hunting. I was able to get this shot before they headed inside the tree to sleep. #Tarsier #Tangkoko #Primate #Nocturnal #Tree #Small #Indonesia #BBC #EarthOnLocation
I was filming in Malaysia. In the rainforest the distinctive honking call of a Malayan horned toad is the only thing that betrays its disguise. Once heard, you must slowly move towards the sound, but if it spots you the game is on. The frog goes silent, sits still and waits. Get too close and it will suddenly jump and dive into the leaf litter never to be seen again. To find a frog disguised as a leaf can take some time. #BBC #EarthOnLocation #Malaysia #Frog #Toad #Amphibian #Camouflage #Wildlife #Evolution #Rainforest
I was filming with Ellie - a magnificent Goshawk raised by bird specialists Lloyd and Rose Buck. We used high speed cameras to capture her aeronautical skills, and reveal how these stealthy predators navigate tiny spaces in the forest with ease. In between shots she relaxed on Lloyds arm allowing me to take this photo. #BBCEarth #EarthOnLocation #BirdofPrey #Predator #Flying #Goshawk #Portrait #WildlifePhotography #BritishWildlife
